Elder Dube Meets Our Zimbabwe Missionaries

Elder Dube, the first General Authority called from Zimbabwe, is in the Africa West Area Presidency and recently received a transfer to Salt Lake City.  During a visit to the MTC today, he was able to personally greet Elder Aston Millard Chimbiriwiri, who remembers his service as a mission president.  He also met Sister Yvette Emelda Sande, whose uncle served as an Executive Secretary to Elder Dube while in Zimbabwe.  It was a tearful reunion.  Both these missionaries are going to serve in the Ghana Cape Coast Mission.

Selasi was hired as a full-time MTC employee in May 2002 when President Handlie was the Ghana MTC President.  Her son, Elder Antwi, is currently one of our six-week missionaries learning French.

Meet the MTC Districts

Here are each of the missionaries in a photo with the missionaries in their respective districts:

 We have 78 missionaries with us at the present time.  Fifty-eight of them will leave for the mission field next Tuesday.  Thirty-one of these missionaries speak French and 49 speak English.  (We have 59 elders and 19 sisters this time.)

These missionaries come from Botswana, Burundi, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Samoa, Togo, Tonga, Uganda, the United States, and Zimbabwe.

Missionaries at the MTC are Organized into District

Imagine being in a district named after a Book of Mormon prophet.  Every two weeks Sister Robison takes the picture of every missionary and they are uploaded into the data base.  Elder Malmrose then creates the picture board, much like the board that is found in every mission office throughout the world.  The missionaries are paired by companionship within each district.

Elder John Koranteng Speaks in Area Devotional June 18th

Every two weeks a member of the Area Presidency or an Area Seventy addresses the missionaries in an Area Devotional at the MTC.  Elder John Koranteng is the director the self-reliance program in the Africa West Area and speaks 7 languages.  He and his twin brother first learned about the Church while studying in Norway during the Ghana Freeze.  When they returned to Ghana, both were baptized.

English Speaking Missionaries Visit Accra Ghana Temple

Thirty-one of the 58 two-week missionaries had never been to the temple before yesterday and today. However, on temple day, even the six week missionaries attend.  Pictured in these photos are some of the English-speaking missionaries who attended the temple today.  Yesterday, it was French-speaking missionaries' turn.

If you didn't see your missionary in the first photo, it is because one other group had not yet arrived.  They were scheduled for the 12:30 p.m. schedule.

June Update - Progress on the New MTC

The new MTC will be completed sometime during 2017.  Workers there continue to make steady progress on the new structure, will will house 320 missionaries.  It is located on the property adjacent to the Ghana Accra Temple.
