The New MTC Has A Wall!

This is the classroom and MTC Presidency Apartments Building.  Note that the first wall is now up as of February 24, 2015.
Last time we posted a photo of this area two weeks ago, the concrete was not here.  The front of the building is making progress as well.  MTC completion date is anticipated to be after Sept. 2016.

New MTC Construction Progress

As of the last week of the year, progress continues to be made on the new MTC.  Now the footings for the walls in the class room building are being installed.  However since this is the last week of the year, there has not been much activity since before Christmas.  Things will recommence in earnest next week.

This shows what is happening with the front of the building.

Here is what the front of the building will look like.

This shows the view of the class room side (North side of the building closest to the temple)

On the right hand side of this drawing you see the class room building.

The building began in early September and will be completed in September of 2016.  The capacity of the building will be triple what it is now (mid 300s).

What Progress Has Been Made on the New MTC After 2 Months?

The pictures tell the tale.  There are more holes, more footings, and the work continues.  The holes are now underway for the Front Building as well as for the Classroom building.  The far hole is for the residence.  Notice the color of dirt in Ghana. (Very similar to that of our other mission - Guyana)

The above three photographs show the building construction progress of the new MTC as of October 1st.  You can see that the walkways have mostly been dismantled and that the hole for the foundation of the residence hall has now been dug.

This ariel view of an architect's rendering of the new Ghana MTC shows what the finished project will look like in September 2016.

Ground Broken for New MTC

After months of anxious anticipation, the ground for the new Ghana MTC was broken this past week.  The new MTC will:

  • Have 120,000 square feet
  • House 320 missionaries with flexibility to expand to 500 in next building phase
  • Teach in 32 classrooms
  • Host missionaries in 80 bedrooms (four to a room)
  • Be comprised of 4 buildings (6 level residence hall, 3 level classroom building, a gymnasium/auditorium, and a cafeteria)
  • Contain 3 chapels, a barbershop and a bookstore
The building will take 2 years to complete.  The work of the Lord is hastening in Africa!

So what will the Ghana Temple Square look like?
