Some Missionaries Experienced A Difficult Path in Life to Get Here - Meet Elder Ndikuriyo

Elder Eric Ndikuriyo
Elder  Eric Ndikuriyo is 26 years old and is from Burundi.  He was baptized in 2014. When he was 17 years old his father died.  He was killed in the Burundian Civil War, an armed conflict lasting from 1993 to 2006.

The civil war was the result of long standing ethnic divisions between the Hutu and the Tutsi tribes in Burundi. The conflict began following the first multi-party elections in the country since independence from Belgium in 1962, and is seen as formally ending with the swearing in of Pierre Nkurunziza in August 2005. The estimated death toll stands at 300,000 killed.  One of those was Elder Ndikuriyo's father as he was confronted one evening in the street by rebels who walked up to him and killed him.

Elder Ndikuriyo’s mother had died of illness in 1992.  After the passing of his father, he went to live with his older brother who raised him and his other siblings (3 sisters and 5 brothers).  While studying at university, he was found by the missionaries.  Their message of the restoration touched his heart and sparked a profound testimony of the restored gospel.

Today, Elder Ndikuriyo is in the Ghana MTC and has been called to serve in the Cote d’Ivoire Abidjan Mission.
