Mis-sion-ar-y (noun) Someone who leaves their family for two years so that
others can be with their family for eternity
I. Prevent INJURIES
- Always walk facing traffic
- Wear your helmet riding your bicycle
- Don’t ride motorcycles
- Common sense is mandatory in West Africa
II. Prevent MALARIA
DOXYCYCLINE is a mild antibiotic
- Take with food and drink at the same time each day
- Do not lay down for 2 hours
- Use 40% Deet repellent when going out after dark
- If there are mosquitos in your apartment sleep under a net
MALARIA SYMPTOMS
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle aches
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
If you have 3 of the
4 symptoms, Call your Mission
President’s wife and GET TESTED
III. Get CLEAN WATER
Consider all
water unsafe to drink
Exceptions are:
- Filtered water in your apartment
- Bottled water with unbroken seal
- Water through your Seychelle filter water bottle issued in the MTC
- Boiled water
Sachet water should be
filtered
BRUSHING
TEETH - Use only filtered water to brush your teeth or FLOSS your Teeth
WASHING DISHES
Put 2 capfuls of bleach and dish soap in your water to wash dishes
IV. Prevent RUNNY TUMMY
Three main causes of diarrhea or runny tummy are:
- dirty hands
- dirty water
- dirty food
WASH
HANDS
- After using the toilet
- Before eating
- After meetings
USE HAND SANITIZER - It will last for 2 hours
2 – 2 – 2
RULE
ALL fruits, vegetables and
eggs
- 2 liters of water
- 2 capfuls of bleach
- 2 minute soak
Rinse
in filtered or bottled water if you are eating the outside skin
- No soft egg YOLKS
- Cook meat thoroughly, NO PINK
