Meet the Brubakers

The new Ghana MTC President and Companion have been called. On November 7, 2015, the Church News will run an article similar to this:

Scott McDonald Brubaker, 63, and Rebecca Patterson Brubaker, five children, President of the Ghana MTC 2016-2018. Belgium Brussels/Netherlands Mission President 2009-2012; Valley View 10th Ward, Salt Lake Valley View Stake. Brother Brubaker is a former public affairs missionary in the France Paris Mission, bishop and counselor, high councilor, stake and ward Young Men president, Scoutmaster, and missionary in the Belgium Brussels Mission. Partner, Smith Brubaker Haacke Development. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Joseph Junior and Helen Sims McDonald Brubaker. Sister Brubaker served in the France Paris Mission with her husband and is a former ward Young Women president and counselor, stake and ward Young Women camp director, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency and ward Relief Society president. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Alma Thomas and Chesla June Seely Patterson.

(On their mission blog they said: “Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe.  We have 5 children and 16 grand children.  We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area and enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!”)

OUR JOURNEY TO AFRICA

Sister Brubaker and I had the opportunity a number of years ago to visit the African country of Senegal on a short term medical service mission. While there we gained a love of the African peoples. While serving in Europe we were extremely impressed with the love and sincerity of our African converts. While returning from a trip to France about 20 years ago, I sat next to a Senior missionary returning from serving in Ivory Coast. We talked in French for a long time and shared testimonies. As the flight neared its end he made a "prophetic'' sounding statement "You will have the opportunity to serve a mission in Africa". I was so touched that I felt a kind of confirmation. Years later when Elder Uchtdorf called us to serve as a Mission President to a 'French Speaking' mission I was sure we were going to Africa ... Then we received the most amazing call to France, Belgium and the Netherlands. WE LOVED our mission and know that it was an inspired call, to serve there with our missionaries.

TIME MOVES ON...
Two weeks ago today we got a call from the Church Office Building requesting that we meet with the Executive Director of the Missionary Department. We met with Elder Evans and were called to serve as the MTC President and Companion in the Ghana MTC! WOW how life can change on a dime!

We are still in a bit of Shock but are so excited. Our only regret is that we will miss our loved ones including our beloved missionaries. We told our children and grandchildren at a family get together yesterday
